100 years go, my great-grandfather Leon Gottlieb owned a department store on Main Street, a house on State Circle (both since burned down) and a 'summer home' at the end of Chesapeake Avenue on Eastport (also long gone). The beach in front of the house included what is now Horn Point Park, and there was a tree stump on the beach that was the scene of many family photos. This one shows my grandmother Kathryn, Leon's daughter, my grandfather Harry (Naval Academy grad and hero of the 1916 Army Navy Game) and my father when he was about 3 years old in 1922, and you can see Bancroft Hall over my grandmother's shoulder.
